GoPro cameras are probably the most popular action cams available today. Even if you aren't doing any extreme sports there are many other reasons to take a GoPro with you on your travels. Here are some of my favorites that allow you capture so much more than a regular camera would.
Take it into the water
If you go snorkeling a GoPro is an absolute must but you probably also have lots of fun just taking it with you to the pool next time. The GoPro Hero 4 comes with a standard housing that’s waterproof up to 131’ (40 meters) so you can even take it scuba diving. Many other underwater point and shoot cameras are only waterproof between 30-60 feet (9-18 meters). The ultra wide field of view of a GoPro make it very easy capture everything you’ll see. Here some footage from a snorkeling trip to the Galapagos Islands.
Strap it on your car and make a time lapse video
With countless mount options being available you can stick a GoPro almost anywhere. If you mount it on your car you can capture changing sceneries as your are driving. Here is an example of driving through Yellowstone National Park with a GoPro mounted on the side mirror with a GorillaPod. We even captured a small bison jam without having to get out of the car.
Capture a Sunset experience with a time lapse video
Even if you don’t move at all you can just place your GoPro somewhere to take a time lapse video of a sunset, fast moving clouds or busy street.
Capture details too fast for your eyes with Slow Motion
Slow Motion videos are recorded with up to 240 images per second so you can see details that are usually too fast for the human eye. Get creative and point it at a playing puppy, a waterfall or a geyser. The possibilities are endless.
